- I agree with @CountMike about Hard Disk Sentinel. It’s my goto tester. I run a long surface read test on all hard drives (brand new or second hand) before installing them in destop PCs and servers. Takes roughly 10 hours on an 8TB drive. I like the drive surface maps created by HD Sentinel showing dodgy areas.
